Augmenting reality with Scan3D
Scan3D is an Augmented Reality application for Android and iOS which can detect a certain marker and place a 3D-model on top of that marker, seemingly making it come to life.

The client
We live in a 360-degree world. We experience engaging events and visit fascinating places, experiences that we like to share with friends. We also prefer to see our view of the future in 360 degrees. Polygon 360 offers a lot of possibilities to realise this. They use techniques that can register spaces, events, people or objects in 360 degrees in high quality. But also techniques that allow you to experience future buildings and spaces in 360 degrees.
The challenge
The customer created a 3D full body scanner to instantly create a 3D model of anyone or anything you can fit into the scanner. To be able to view this model, one would need to download specialized software which is mostly not free of charge and require some IT skills to use.
With the Scan3D app our customer can provide the end-user with a QR code, 2D image of his photoshoot, or any marker he or she wishes. If the end-user uses the app and hovers over the marker with our app, he/she can see the results of the scan come to life on the screen of the mobile device. Simple and effective!
The app is meant for any end-user and thus had to be compatible with all iOS devices, all Android phones and their various screen sizes.

The solution
PegusDigital has a lot of experience in visualising CAD models on a mobile device. Combined with a clever and powerful Computer Vision Framework to detect a marker using your mobile camera, the app was born.
The customer has a backend system in which markers can be uploaded and linked to a CAD model. The app synchronises with the backend server to download all the markers.
Upon successful recognition of a certain marker, the app downloads the CAD model in an instant and shows it to the user in 360°.
